PLANNING - Conventions of an advert

1. Release date - this allows the audience to know when they are able to start purchasing the album.

2. Album/song title - this lets the audience know what they are looking for and usually songs are re,eased on the radio earlier than they are available to be purchased.

3. Image of album cover - this image of album encourages the audience to purchase the CD as it makes the album look more attractive.

4. A4 in size - the A4 size makes it easy for the advert to be placed anywhere such as shops and bus stops

5. Image of the artist - this feels the audiences who the album is about and introduces the artist, also the image makes it more appealing for consumers thus. Reacting brand image.

6. Special features - extras on digipak, more information about the artist and reviews of the album makes advert look more authentic.

7. Record label - gives an insight to the type of artist and their style of music.

8. Available in stores/ online/ price - this lets the audiences know where to get the album from.

These conventions help to show what makes up these products so unique. After knowing these conventions I became more innovative about my music video and started to think how to include these conventions in different ways to make it look more interesting for my target audience.
I have tried my best to include all the conventions in all of my products to make it look authentic.

PLANNING - Focus Group Work

Through the focus group work I recieved a lot of useful feedback which helped me to see my mistakes and improve my work more.
Many people adviced me on how to improve the star image for my digipak cover along with my advert poster therefore with that feedback I made the changes which improved my work and related more with the genre and the narrative of my music video.
Also, before I had no performance shown by my artist because I thought that my narrative does not need any performance. However, after the feedback which I recieved from my focus group I decided to show my artist as running at different locations which further adds to his image to support my narrative and, also adds in some performance to make my music video much mor interesting to watch.
Moreover, I had to keep in my mind of the baroque genre of my song and to reflect upon that style of music I created an errie yet hopeful narrative for my audiences to feel delighted toward life after watching my music video. To enhance this idea, the feedback which I recieved was about reflecting this genre through the narrative of my music video and to show this I decided to use the idea of  'Godlen Age' and my artist in search of life away from all the stress and worries of urban life.

Down below is my questionnaire which I handed out to my family and friends. I got both positive and some negative feedbacks which I can then use to do improvements. This exercise helped me a lot and made me aware of where I was going wrong and what I could do better.

RESEARCH - Fonts

For my CD's front cover and advert poster, I have used these fonts and some similar fonts to these. This was my researching when decided the font for my text and i looked at it from various different perceptions to get the right font for my texts. Firstly, I looked at some simple fonts, then at graffiti fonts, along with some out of the box fonts such as freestyle fonts and then Victorian style fonts. I looked at these fonts because they all match with the narrative and the genre of my music video either with the artist's mental health of being paranoid or with the whole theme of 'Golden Age' which is my title as well as the narrative of the whole music video. I finally decided to use a victorian style font for the advert poster title and a contemporary font for the CD's front cover. for the artist's name on the advert cover I have used a freestyle font to get a mixture of fonts whereas on the front cover I have used a font looking almost like bubble writing which can stand-out and can be clear to see.

PLANNING - Genre

  • Baroque pop is a pop/rock music video hich started in the USA and UK in the mid1960s and worked as a fusion of rock and classical music. The term 'baroque rock' can also be used as harder edge and less commercial music. This music usually uses string instruments which gives the song an authentic tone and makes it sound much mor melodious.

  • This genre was mostly used to be more serious and mature in its ways and less wild than rock music. Traditionallly, baroque is quite melancholic and dramatic music, which contrastes from pop music. To reflect on this I have shown my artist as very melencholic and in search of a life that he can enjoy by being away from the corruption, stress and noise of urban world and find peace near nature (Golden Age). At the end, the dramatic sucidical shot further helps to see the genre of my music video.

  • In 'Run Boy Run', the baroque genre is established very well through its dramatic narrative and effective music. Due to its powerful genre, I had to think of a narrative which can match with the music and it's genre therefore, I decided to show a paranoid person and his survival through his struggles. The pictures below suggest that the genre itself is has a very royal and victorian feel to it which I will try to embed within my work.

MUSIC VIDEO - Elements to include (Checklist)

This is the list which was given to me by my teacher in order to help me remember and keep track of all the things that need to be done. This helped me add in all the things that are important and make my music video look more authentic and professional.
