The first shot opens with an establishing shot but it does not tell in which part of the world the shot has been taken. We then see Tom Cruise climbing on a mountain this tells us, that his character is very adventurous. In this scene, diagetic sound has been used. We can only hear his breathing and his footsteps as he climbs up this makes the scene look very authentic and makes the audience feel engaged. Later on, we see a slow motion as he jumps from one rock to another. The purpose of slow motion is for the audience to see clearly what is happening. This makes his character seem very strong and shows his bravery as he is the main hero, and the fact that he is not afraid of putting his life into danger. We see many close-ups and mid-shots of him showing his expressions and his upper body language. This makes the audience know more about him and his character. This is the time when background music starts. The music gets louder and louder as the scene progresses and it involves fast beats. The music stops when he is falling but starts again when he is safe this reassures us that he is not in danger and he enjoys such adventurous activities which we can see in his close-ups as he smiles. More diagetic sound of helicopter to make it look authentic. We then hear a voiceover when Tom is listening to the information through the glasses. We see a close-up of the glasses so the audience can see its features because it is unique technolo gy and something new for the audience as not all glasses have speakers and we cannot look through it. The only dialogue used in this opening is when Tom says "I'll let you know where I an going" this shows that he is committed towards his work and his people.
